Martin Welch | |
Martin Welch served in the US Navy from September 1970 to August 1974. He achieved the rating of Petty Officer 2nd Class in the AMH (Aviation Hydraulics Metalsmith) Rate and was a flying plane captain (crew chief) in the Tactical Electronics Warfare Squadron 135 (VAQ-135 Detachment 5) flying EKA-3B aircraft out of the Da Nang and Bien Hoa airbases in South Viet Nam in support of the USS Hancock (aircraft carrier CVA-19) in 1972. Marty's home port from April 1971 through March 1974 was Alameda Naval Air Station, Alameda, Ca (across the bay from San Francisco). During the last five months of service he was the airframes shop Maintenance Petty Officer for HS-2, the helicopter squadron based out of Imperial Beach, Ca in support of the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier (CVAN-65). Marty lived in Arenzville until he was 16 years old. His family moved from the community in December of 1967. |
