From Arenzville, 75 men and women served during the Vietnam era. Among them were family groups that had been sending sons to war for generations – three Dufelmeiers, three Roegges, three Clarks, four Stocks, and two sets of brothers across several families.

Martin Welch served in the US Navy from September 1970 to August 1974. He achieved the rating of Petty Officer 2nd Class in the AMH (Aviation Hydraulics Metalsmith) Rate and was a flying plane captain (crew chief) in the Tactical Electronics Warfare Squadron 135 (VAQ-135 Detachment 5) flying EKA-3B aircraft out of the Da Nang and Bien Hoa airbases in South Viet Nam in support of the USS Hancock (aircraft carrier CVA-19) in 1972.
