Enlisted in 1861; mustered out on 24 Jun 1864. The IL Veterans Index incudes a notation that the “monthly return says this man is a veteran.” However, rosters of Co A do not include him among the veterans in that company.

He enrolled at Bethel, IL on 1 July 1861 and entered service at St. Louis in 5 Aug 1861. Assigned to in Co I, 11th MO Inf. Detached to “Capt “Reece’s Battery” 31 July 1862 till ? Mustered out 31 Dec 1863 and then reenlisted as veteran volunteer for the state of Illinois (regiment not identified) at La Grange, TN on 1 Jan 1864. Saw action at Frederickstown, MD; Farmington, MS; New Madrid, MO; Siege of Corinth; Tupelo, MS, and Nashville, TN. Records show he was granted a 30-day furlough on 30 Mar 1864 to Arenzville, IL. Wounded in action (in the right hip and/or knee) at Nashville, TN, on 15 Dec 1864; in hospital at Covington, KY, on 16 Dec 1864. Discharged on 31 May 1865 at Main Street Hospital, Covington, KY, on surgeon’s certificate of disability caused by gunshot wound. Residence indicated on discharge was Meredosia.
