William Meyer

Birth Year: 1839
Regiment(s): 11th IL Inf
Remarks: Only documented link to Arenzville is mention in the Cass County Draft Registration roll. There may be two men with this name who had Arenzville ties.

This man is likely not the same individual as William Meyer born 1834 and died 1892. The Cass County Draft Registration records show a man by the name of William Meyer living in Arenzville township with prior service in 11th IL Inf. A “William C. Myers” entered service of Co C, 11th IL Inf on 17 Aug 1861, claiming residence of Marion County, IL, and mustered out due to disability on 15 Jan 1862. Other records show he was born in Centralia, IL. The 1929 Illinois Roll of Honor shows a William Meyer, unit not specified, buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Beardstown, IL. Oak Grove FAG listings do not show a William Meyer in that cemetery, but they do show a “William Myers,” 1832-1907, who served in Co H, 32 OH Inf., and was a Beardstown resident for 20 years prior to his death. This is likely yet a differerent William Meyer.
