Note that he is found in some databases with the spelling of “Kenchler,” which was a mistranscription of his surname. The muster rolls descrbe him as “single, farmer” and a resident of Cass County, IL. Census records of 1860 and 1870 show that he resided in the Arenzville precinct in those years, a fact also noted in his obituary. He was a brother-in-law to Christian Triebert. After his marriage in Arenzville in 1871, he moved to Rushville and was a revered member of that community for many years, participating in veterans’ functions until his later years.
